ANCESTOR SPOTLIGHT: BARBARA SCHMITT

Barbara Schmidt was born April 14, 1871 in Warren, MI to John Christian Schmidt & Barbara Hettinger. She was the 11th born of 13 children. She was my 3rd great aunt, sister of my great, great grandfather Alexander Smith.

Barbara married Joseph Weingartz on April 3, 1891. The Weingartz family (Joseph's parents) owned a 30 acre farm located on Van Dyke across from St. Clement Church. And yes....this is the same family who opened Weingartz stores in MI around 1945.

Barbara & Joseph had 10 children: Michael John, Christopher Louis "Puss", Lawrence Anthony "Bun", Tracy, Theresa "Misses", Clementine R "Tutti", Aloysius J "Plug", Raymond W "Buster", Cecelia D "Muttie", and George P.

Barbara died Nov 6, 1953 in Warren, MI and is burred at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit, MI.

Barbara is shown on the right of this picture with one of her children. The other couple on the left are her in-laws.
