ANCESTOR SPOTLIGHT: OLIVE ALBERTA TRIPP SUHY

ANCESTOR SPOTLIGHT: OLIVE ALBERTA TRIPP SUHY
Olive Alberta Tripp was born Nov 16, 1918 in Brockville, Ontario, Canada to Archibald Tripp & Nettie Pearl Brown. Olive was the 1/2 sister of my grandma, Shirley, so she was my Great Aunt.
Olive was married to Andrew Suhy, and together they had 13 children: Carol, Marilyn, Michael, Andrew, Frank, Mary Louise, Ann Marie, Joseph, Margaret, Kathryn, Elizabeth, Ellen Marie, & Patrick.
The pictures are census records and other documents that I have for Olive. While I have some facts, the story shared by my Aunt Marilyn is a much better memory.
"She is one of the most incredible women I have known. She and Uncle Andy had 13 children in a small house on the East side of Detroit. She buried far too many of them too young under devastating circumstance. And she had enormous faith in God and Willie Nelson. I remember they had a big kitchen in their basement with a giant table that fit everyone and anyone else that was around. And there was always a tray of cupcakes in the pantry. And when I was lucky enough to spend the night with my cousins we always walked to church on Sunday mornings and owned the front row. And then there was "camp". Homestead campgrounds on Lower Straights Lake. They had a mansion of tents and spent the entire summer there. We d pile in the car and go out there as often as we could. Always got a slow poke at the stand at the beach. Uncle Andy loved to go out on the row boat and fish. There was always a rip roaring bonfire and marshmallows and hot dogs. And I can't forget the midnight trips to the "johns". I hated that part but worse was the "pot" in the tent. As soon as the sun came up there would be the aroma of bacon and eggs and toast cooking on the camp stove. And a pot of coffee. It was so much fun. I'm not sure when it ended but Uncle Andy passed and Aunt Olive moved to Walled Lake . Life had completely changed for her and she went back to school and got a good job and completely reinvented herself. I remember she retired and moved to Arizona and she bought a pick up truck and was still such a character and she still loved life and her family and God and Willie Nelson."
Olive died Nov 3, 1999 in Arizona.
