John Christian Schmidt was my 3rd great grandfather. His name is found in many forms: John or Christian and Schmidt, Schmitt, or Smith.
John was born Dec 23, 1829 in Alsace, France and died Jan 10, 1901 in Macomb Co., Michigan.
He is buried with his wife, Barbara, at St. Clement Cemetery in Center Line, MI.
John arrived from France in 1850 to New York, then Detroit, MI.
He married Barbara June 27, 1852 and they had 13 children: Peter, Jacob, Lizzie, Mary, Cecelia, Michael, George, Alexander, John, Casper, Barbara, Anna, & August. Some of the children's last names changed from Schmidt to Smith.
John died of emphysema.
John was a farmer.
