Magdalena "Madge" Skocynski was born Dec 19, 1848 in Germany. She died May 27, 1907 in Detroit, MI of liver cancer. She was my 2nd great grandmother.
Her parents were Jacob Skocynski & Anna Budka.
Magdalena married Johann "John" Garstecki in 1884 in Germany.
Together they traveled from Hamburg, Germany to New York, and then to Detroit with 2 of their children, Anna & Paulina.
They arrived in the United States on a ship named "Scandia" on March 26, 1893.
According to the 1900 census, Magdalena & John had 5 of 8 children living. I have only discovered 4 of their names so it's probable that some were infant deaths. They were named Anna, Antonette, Albert, & Paulina.
Her death certificate also shows there are 5 of 8 children living.
Not sure why only 2 children traveled to the U.S. with them, since they would have been young.
After Magdalena's death, John remarried in Aug 1907.
