ANCESTOR SPOTLIGHT: CAMILLE CHARTIER

ANCESTOR SPOTLIGHT: CAMILLE CHARTIER

So here is the story.....I walked into my parents house to see my mom & aunts throwing pictures away. I think I almost died!!!! I made them stop immediately! They were doing some cleaning and getting rid of pics of people they didn't know....but some of them had names on the back. So I said I would figure out who some of these people are. I mean....how do you throw away pics with names on them????
Meanwhile, we were in Wisconsin for a family wedding, and I had figured out who Camille was and how he was related. I also figured that someone should remember him...so I checked with my Aunt Betty...and she did remember him! She remembered her dad going to visit Blanche & Camille in New York!
I'm sure there is more that some of my relatives remember about him, that we just haven't gotten to yet!

Camille Chartier was born on Aug 18, 1869 in Joilette, Quebec, Canada. He was the 9th of 13 children born to Joseph Chartier & Hermeline Pichereau.
Camille would have been my 3rd great uncle.....the younger brother of my great great grandfather, Gilbert Chartier.

Camille married Blanche F McAllister around 1924. (She was 17 years younger than him). Blanche was previously married & widowed. She was born in the West Indies.

In my digging, I realized that Blanche was already part of my tree! Her brother married Marie Louisa Chartier, who was a cousin of Camille. (Maria Louisa is listed as my 1st cousin, 4X removed).

Blanche & Camille were listed in several city directories in the 1920's in Springfield, Mass. They were living in Manhattan, New York by 1930.

Camille was listed as a coal mine fireman in the 1900 census living in Wisconsin as a boarder.
In the 1920's & 1930's he was a house fireman.

Camille died Aug 1962 in New York.
